Create realistic flowers from gum paste or flower paste for cake decoration.
You will need the following tools and ingredients: cutter, flower or gum paste, rolling pin, cornstarch/icing sugar, foam pad, ball tool, floral wire, floral tape, edible glue, colour dust.
- Knead the paste until smooth and roll out on a smooth surface dusted with cornstarch or icing sugar to approximately 1mm thick.
- Press the cutter firmly into the rolled-out paste to cut the shape.
- Place the cut-out petal on a foam pad. Use a ball tool to thin and slightly ruffle the edges.
- Take a small piece of paste and form a flower centre. Insert a piece of floral wire.
- Place the centre in the middle of the cut-out petal. Fold the petal around the centre to create the correct flower shape.
- Let the flower dry in a flower former or rolled-up kitchen paper to maintain its shape.
- Once dry, you can add extra colour using dusting powder for a more realistic effect.
